Tanzania and Turkey have reaffirmed their commitment to a strategic partnership in the agricultural sector, aligning with Tanzania’s Agriculture Master Plan 2050 and Agenda 10/30, which aim to advance the sector into a productive, commercially viable industry achieving 10 percent annual growth by 2030.
The lucrative discussions were held by Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Daniel Chongolo (MP) and Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, H.E. Bekir Gezer on 17 June 2026, in Dodoma.
The discussion reinforced the longstanding ties between the two countries and identified key areas of cooperation in particular, irrigation infrastructure, mechanization projects, cold storages for post-harvest management and technical support in capacity building.
During their discussion, H.E. Ambassador Gezer praised on the economic diplomacy between the countries, noting the growing presence of Turkish projects in Tanzania across health, education, fisheries, energy and trade. He underscored the importance of agricultural collaboration for farmer welfare and development of the country at large.
“Your timely visit shows the commitment of your country in the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance agricultural cooperation. Notably, our countries had a previous MoU (2009-2014), so I commend your readiness to strengthen our economic ties,” said Hon. Chongolo.
The two leaders also discussed the role of the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TiKA) in which H.E. Ambassador Gezer encouraged Tanzania Government to leverage on TiKA projects for the benefit of farmers. On his side,
Hon. Minister Chongolo outlined further investment opportunities that the two countries can venture, such as enhancing agricultural productivity; promoting value addition, agribusiness and agro-processing to agricultural.
The meeting was attended byProf. Peter L. M. Msoffe, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Crops Development and Food Security); Dr. Yasinta Nzogela, Director of Crop Development; Ms. Happy Pascal, Acting Director of Marketing and Food Security; Ms. Tagie Daisy, Head of Government Communication Unit in the Ministry of Agriculture; including representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Tanzania and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
