NAMIBIAN PRESIDENT VISITS HER FORMER NEIGHBOURS IN MAGOMENI

The President of the Republic of Namibia, H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, visited Magomeni in Dar es Salaam, including the house where she once lived during Namibia’s liberation struggle under the auspices of SWAPO.

The visit was marked by a sense of nostalgia and served as a powerful reminder of the historic solidarity between Tanzania and Namibia.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah was warmly welcomed by her former neighbours, including Mama Salehe and Mama Salama, who had known her during her years in the area as a representative of Namibia’s liberation movement.

Speaking to them President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Government and people of Tanzania for their invaluable support during Namibia’s struggle for independence.

She emphasized that the shared history between the two nations has laid the foundation for a strong and enduring friendship.

“Magomeni is an important part of my life and the history of my country. Tanzania provided us with shelter, love, and the opportunity to fight for our freedom. This is a testament to true friendship and African solidarity,” she said.

Following the meeting, President Nandi-Ndaitwah toured the house where she once lived, reflecting on the years of struggle and sacrifice that shaped Namibia’s path to independence. Her former neighbours also shared memories of that period and expressed their joy at reuniting with her, this time as the President of the Republic of Namibia.

The visit highlighted the deep historical ties between Tanzania and Namibia, forged during the liberation struggles of Southern Africa and strengthened over decades of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.
