The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of public servants through continued investment in staff housing projects aimed at enhancing productivity and the quality of public service delivery.
The remarks were made by the Director of the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit at the President's Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, Mr. Patrick Allute, during an inspection of ongoing staff housing projects at Ngolela Primary School in Kyela District and Idweli Primary School in Rungwe District, Mbeya Region. The inspection was conducted jointly with officials from the President's Office and Watumishi Housing Investments (WHI).
Mr. Allute said the provision of decent accommodation would significantly improve teachers' morale, strengthen their commitment to duty, and contribute to better education service delivery. He also urged future occupants to safeguard the houses, stressing that they are valuable public assets built to benefit both current and future generations of public servants.
"The Government continues to invest substantial resources in improving the working and living conditions of public servants. It is therefore the responsibility of every beneficiary to ensure these houses are properly maintained once completed and occupied, so they can continue serving both current and future public servants," he said.
Assistant Director for Planning and Budget at the President's Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ms. Julieth Magambo, said the Government remains committed to expanding staff housing projects to provide public servants with safe, comfortable and conducive living environments that enable them to perform their duties more effectively.
She noted that decent accommodation plays a vital role in boosting employee motivation, improving workplace efficiency and ensuring the delivery of quality public services across the country.
Earlier, the Head Teacher of Ngolela Primary School, Mr. Samsoni Anyosisye, commended the Government for implementing the project, noting that the existing staff houses are dilapidated and no longer suitable for occupation, forcing many teachers to live far from the school.
Similarly, Mr. Tejile Mathew, a teacher at Idweli Primary School, said the completion of the housing units would motivate teachers, improve their welfare and ultimately enhance the quality of education services provided to learners.
