The Ministry of Water of the United Republic of Tanzania informs stakeholders and the general public that the 9th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Basin Water Boards, the 7th National Multi-Stakeholder Forum on Water Resources Management and Development (NMSF), and the Launch of the 5th National Water Board will be held in Dodoma City from 27th to 30th January 2026.
The meetings will bring together Basin Water Boards, the National Water Board, the Ministry of Water, key water-related ministries, development partners, public and private institutions, civil society organizations, academia, and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategic priorities for water resources governance, institutional performance, and national water security.
The theme of the meetings is “Water Security for National Prosperity: Driving DIRA 2050 through Resilience, Equity, and Sustainability.” The theme underscores the importance of water security as a foundation for Tanzania’s socio-economic transformation and the implementation of Tanzania Development Vision 2050.
Speaking ahead of the meetings, the Minister for Water, Hon. Jumaa Hamidu Aweso, emphasized that water security is central to national development, climate resilience, food security, industrialization, and inclusive growth. He noted that the meetings will assess sector performance, strengthen institutional coordination, and mobilize collective action toward sustainable water resources management, particularly in the context of the post–Water Sector Development Programme (WSDP).
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water, Eng. Mwajuma Waziri, highlighted that the meetings will provide a platform to review the performance of Basin Water Boards, strengthen integrated water resources management across all basins, and enhance inclusive stakeholder engagement. She further noted that the launch of the 5th National Water Board reaffirms the Government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and effective governance in the water sector.
The meetings will also align sector priorities with key national planning frameworks, including DIRA 2050, the Long-Term Perspective Plan (2025–2050), the Five-Year Development Plan (2025/26–2029/30), and the post-WSDP framework.
The Ministry of Water invites stakeholders, development partners, and media representatives to participate in and cover these meetings, which are expected to contribute significantly to sustainable water security and national development in Tanzania.
