The recognition of Tanzania’s digital journalism has reached a new milestone as Ms. Veronica Mrema, Founder of M24 TANZANIA MEDIA and a distinguished member of the Tanzania Bloggers Network (TBN), has officially joined a panel discussion at the 13th World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ2025) taking place in Pretoria.
This achievement is not only a personal triumph for Ms. Mrema but also a significant honour for TBN and the broader media sector in Tanzania, underscoring the growing global acknowledgement of digital journalism from the country.
Ms. Mrema is in South Africa attending the high-level conference, which runs until December 5, 2025, after receiving a special Travel Grant from the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) of South Africa. The grant was awarded in recognition of her exceptional work in science and health journalism, placing her among the few African recipients selected for this prestigious support.
Her participation as a panelist gives her a rare opportunity to contribute directly to shaping the future of science journalism on the global stage.
Addressing delegates at WCSJ2025—which brings together journalists, researchers, and renowned experts from across the world—Ms. Mrema is expected to emphasize the rapid growth of science and health reporting in Africa. She will highlight the urgent need for high-quality, innovative, and evidence-based journalism to ensure accurate and trustworthy scientific information reaches communities.
Her mission, she noted, is to help promote informed decision-making driven by credible science, drawing from her leadership experience, including her roles as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Dar es Salaam Press Club (DAR-PC) and Information Officer for the Sickle Cell Disease People’s Community of Tanzania (SCDPCT).
The recognition of a TBN member at such a prestigious global forum strengthens Tanzania’s presence in the evolving landscape of modern journalism and reaffirms the country’s growing impact in the global information arena.
