Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Dr. Jafar Seif, has urged leaders and staff of the Department of Health, Community Development and Nutrition to work closely with him to bring about reforms aimed at improving the delivery of primary healthcare services across the country.
Dr. Seif made the call today during a working meeting with a small group of officials from the Department, held at the PMO-RALG Conference Hall (Sokoine). The session focused on enhancing accountability among the department’s staff.
“I want to see practical changes in our operations that will support Hon. Minister Prof. Mdoe in achieving his goal of improving primary healthcare service delivery,” Dr. Seif emphasized.
The Deputy Minister called for full cooperation in executing his duties, adding that his leadership style does not expect staff to engage in internal conflicts. Instead, he urged a culture of dialogue to collectively address operational challenges.
“When faced with challenges, we should receive them together as departmental issues and seek solutions so that the department does not get stuck in fulfilling its responsibilities,” Dr. Seif highlighted.
Dr. Seif also reminded the department’s staff to fully implement directives from President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, particularly ensuring that public servants provide services with a smile while delivering quality care to citizens.
Responding, PMO-RALG Deputy Secretary for Health, Prof. Tumaini Nagu, assured Deputy Minister Dr. Seif that the staff of the Department of Health, Community Development and Nutrition are ready to offer the necessary support to enable him to perform his duties effectively.
Prof. Nagu also noted that the PMO-RALG takes pride in the significant investment made by the Sixth Phase Government, totaling approximately TZS 1.34 trillion, which has been used to construct new hospitals, renovate existing facilities, and procure medical equipment, significantly enhancing the delivery of primary healthcare services nationwide.
Meanwhile, Director of the Department of Health, Community Development and Nutrition, Dr. Rashid Mfaume, explained that the department’s core responsibilities include monitoring, evaluation, and improving governance in the provision of health services, community development, and nutrition. The department also interprets policy guidelines related to sectoral development and financial strategies in health, community development, and nutrition.
The working meeting underscores Deputy Minister Dr. Jafar Seif’s continued efforts to promote accountability among healthcare staff and strengthen the oversight of primary healthcare service delivery in Tanzania.
