ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA,
Tanzania’s Minister of Energy, Hon. Deogratius Ndejembi, has called on African countries to join forces in implementing strategies and plans aimed at promoting efficient energy use, reducing energy wastage, and saving financial resources that could be otherwise invested elsewhere.
Hon. Ndejembi made the call today while addressing the African Union (AU) Energy Conference at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
“When African countries come together as stakeholders in the energy sector, we must unite in executing our plans for the benefit of our continent. The Government of Tanzania is ready to work hand in hand with the private sector, development partners, and all stakeholders to achieve significant socio-economic progress,” said Minister Ndejembi.
During the conference, Minister Ndejembi participated in a high-level discussion with fellow Energy Ministers from across Africa, highlighting Tanzania’s major strides in managing energy efficiency and the use of clean cooking energy.
Minister Ndejembi noted that Tanzania has already launched a 10-year National Strategy for Clean Cooking Energy (2024–2034), alongside a communication strategy and a work plan to implement these initiatives nationwide.
“By November 2025, 23.2 percent of Tanzanians were using clean cooking energy, compared to just 6.9 percent in 2021. As a nation, we have made substantial progress, and we anticipate a significant increase in the number of clean energy users in the coming years,” he said.
Accompanying Minister Ndejembi on the trip was the Commissioner of Electricity and Renewable Energy from the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Innocent Luoga.
