Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Patrobas Katambi, has called on the East Africa Commercial and Logistics Centre (EACLC) to strengthen collaboration with foreign traders bringing in new technologies and expertise that are not yet available in Tanzania, in order to empower young Tanzanians to learn and expand their enterprises.
Speaking during his tour and the official opening of the First EACLC Business Exhibition held in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam, Katambi emphasized that the centre’s core mandate is to educate, promote and enhance trade both locally and internationally.
He underscored the need for local entrepreneurs to fully utilize the exhibition to foster innovation, broaden markets and improve the quality of Tanzanian products. According to him, such platforms provide crucial opportunities for increasing productivity and competitiveness in regional and global markets.
“In creating a more business-friendly environment, the Government has undertaken reforms in 66 policies, laws and regulations, and reduced or abolished more than 380 fees, charges and fines that were considered burdensome to traders. The aim is to attract both local and foreign investment,” Katambi noted.
The Deputy Minister commended EACLC Limited for organizing the exhibition, which has brought together more than 200 participants, with visitor numbers expected to reach 1,000. He said the event supports the Sixth Phase Government’s commitment to strengthening economic diplomacy and positioning Tanzania as a commercial hub for East, Central and Southern Africa.
Katambi urged participants to use the exhibition days to build new business networks, enter meaningful trade agreements and improve the quality of their products to enable them to compete internationally. He stressed that industrial growth requires close cooperation between the Government and the private sector.
For her part, EACLC Limited Managing Director, Cathy Wang, said the exhibition aims to enhance trade infrastructure, including warehouses, offices, exhibition spaces and transport services. She added that the initiative also seeks to connect traders directly with their customers to increase product awareness and investment opportunities.
