Local and foreign investors have been urged to invest in mineral processing and value-addition plants in Singida Region to tap into the area’s growing mineral production, create employment opportunities and boost the local economy.
The call was made by the Singida Resident Mines Officer, Engineer Sabai Nyansiri, who said the region offers vast investment potential due to increased mining activities and a favourable investment environment created by the Government.
Speaking during his visit to small-scale miners at Matongo Mine in Ikungi Ward, Ikungi District, Eng. Nyansiri said Singida continues to perform strongly in the production of gold, copper, building materials and gypsum, making mineral processing facilities critical for enhancing value before sale.
“Establishing mineral processing and value-addition plants will increase employment opportunities for youth and women, enhance government revenue and stimulate economic growth for the people of Singida,” he said.
He added that value addition would also strengthen the mineral value chain and promote formal mineral trade through well-regulated mineral markets, contributing significantly to revenue growth in the region.
Eng. Nyansiri revealed that Singida Region has been assigned to collect Sh30 billion in mineral revenue for the 2025/2026 financial year, up from Sh24 billion in 2024/2025. By December 2025, the region had already achieved 54 per cent of the target, equivalent to Sh16 billion.
He attributed the positive performance to the efforts of the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan in establishing an enabling investment environment and prioritising the empowerment of indigenous small-scale miners.
“These achievements demonstrate the Government’s commitment to building a strong, inclusive and competitive mineral sector that contributes to national development,” he said.
Meanwhile, Matongo Mine Manager, Japhet Madusa, commended the Government for recognising the contribution of small-scale miners to the growth of the mineral sector and called for continued support through access to modern mining equipment and improved road infrastructure to facilitate access to mining areas.
He said the mine continues to collaborate with surrounding communities by providing employment to local youth and supporting social development initiatives, including the provision of construction materials to Matongo Secondary School, the Matongo Village Office and the construction of a Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) office.
Japhet Madusa noted that such initiatives reflect the role of responsible mining in promoting sustainable community development alongside economic growth.
