
The Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, has officially launched the distribution of digital educational and assistive devices worth Shs 5.3 billion to teachers, tutors and student teachers with disabilities.
The launch took place on January 5, 2026, in Dodoma City, where Prof. Mkenda said the Government continues to implement education policies and curriculum reforms aimed at strengthening inclusive education across all levels.
He noted that sustained government investment in the education sector has enabled learners with special needs to access quality education, while also empowering teachers with disabilities to effectively carry out their professional responsibilities.
Prof. Mkenda recalled the directive by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has consistently emphasized that the implementation of inclusive development must go hand in hand with improved infrastructure and availability of specialized learning and teaching equipment for persons with special needs at all levels of education.
The distributed equipment includes 688 laptop computers, 377 digital audio recording devices, 196 tablets, 19 electronic Braille machines, six embossers, seven sound amplification machines and four sets of hearing assessment equipment.
The devices are being distributed to 309 primary schools, 629 secondary schools and 10 teachers’ colleges, benefiting teachers, tutors and student teachers with special needs in all 184 local government authorities nationwide.
Beneficiaries of the programme include 342 teachers with physical disabilities, 310 with visual impairments, 155 with hearing impairments, 90 teachers with albinism, 158 with partial hearing loss, 63 student teachers and 20 tutors with disabilities.
