London, United Kingdom
The Minister of State in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Mkumbo (MP), has officially opened the high-level East Africa Prospects 2026 conference, organised by the Eastern Africa Association (EAA) in collaboration with FTI Consulting, held recently in London.
In his keynote address, Prof. Mkumbo underscored the importance of deepening genuine regional integration among East African countries in the implementation of major development projects, particularly in the sectors of road and railway infrastructure, energy, as well as aviation and transport. He noted that joint regional projects are a critical pillar for strengthening trade, attracting long-term investment, and promoting inclusive development for the region’s citizens.

The Minister also used the forum to highlight key strategic projects being implemented by Tanzania in partnership with neighbouring countries.
These include the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) linking the Port of Dar es Salaam to markets in the Great Lakes region, and the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
He emphasized that such projects enhance regional connectivity, reduce transportation costs, and open up new opportunities for trade, industrial development, and employment.
In concluding his remarks, Prof. Mkumbo assured investors and development partners that Tanzania remains a safe and politically stable country with predictable policies, ready to collaborate with international partners bringing long-term capital, technology, and a commitment to shared value creation. He called on East African countries to continue strengthening regional solidarity as a key instrument for transforming existing opportunities into implementable projects, boosting regional economic growth, and improving the welfare of citizens.
The East Africa Prospects 2026 conference brought together ambassadors, leaders of investment institutions, and private sector representatives to discuss the political and economic outlook of the East African region in 2026 and beyond.
