Tanzania’s UN Envoy Elected Vice President of Global Anti-Corruption Body

Doha, Qatar – In a landmark achievement for Tanzania, H.E. Naimi S.H. Aziz, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations in Vienna, has been elected Vice President of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) for the 2025–2027 term.

The election took place during the opening of the 11th Conference of States Parties, held on December 15, 2025, in Doha, Qatar.

Ambassador Aziz has been tasked with assisting the Conference President, Hamad bin Nasser Al-Misnad, Chairman of Qatar’s Authority for Transparency and Accountability, in leading the conference, overseeing its core functions, managing agendas, facilitating discussions on the implementation of the Convention, and collaborating with the President’s Office to combat corruption worldwide.

The Tanzanian delegation is led by the Director General of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (TAKUKURU), Mr. Crispin Francis Chalamila. It also includes the Controller and Auditor General of Tanzania, CPA Charles Edward Kichere, senior officials from the National Prosecution Office, and representatives from the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority.

During the opening ceremony, participants were urged to leverage emerging technologies in the fight against corruption and address its links to organized and financial crime. In her remarks, President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, emphasized that “preventing and ultimately eliminating corruption is everyone’s responsibility. We owe it to the people we serve.”

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in a statement shared online, said, “Corruption is not a victimless crime. It fuels conflict, entrenches inequality, and wastes resources needed to protect people and the planet. Every dollar lost to economic crime is a dollar stolen from those striving for a better future.”

The Tanzanian delegation is expected to present a progress report on the implementation of the UNCAC for the period 2023–2025, showcasing the country’s commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance on the global stage.
