CCM SECRETARY GENERAL DR. MIGIRO URGES WOMEN TO LEAD NATIONAL PEACE EFFORTS

The Secretary General of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro, has called on women across the country to take a leading role in safeguarding and strengthening peace, emphasizing that the events of October 2025 do not reflect Tanzania’s national values or traditions.

Dr. Migiro delivered the message on December 4, 2025, while officiating the Women’s Forum 2025, held under the theme “Mama ni Amani” (A Mother is Peace).

The event took place in Dodoma and brought together women from various regions of Tanzania, including participants from Zanzibar.

Before the official opening, a documentary was screened highlighting the incidents of October 29, 2025, detailing the destruction of property and loss of lives — although specific figures on casualties were not disclosed.

In her address, Dr. Migiro said it is the right time for national dialogue aimed at reconciliation and restoring Tanzania’s long-standing reputation as a peaceful and stable nation. She emphasized that women have a central role in driving this process.

“Our goal is to ensure the country remains safe. This is not who we are. We must prepare ourselves for dialogue that will lead to reconciliation,” she said.

She noted that more than 50 percent of Tanzania’s population consists of young people, making it essential for women to take strong positions to ensure that past incidents of violence are not repeated, while promoting healing and responsible upbringing.

One of the participants, Kate Kamba, said a woman is the first caregiver and teacher in any family, and therefore cannot escape her responsibility in building strong moral foundations to prevent future unrest.

She warned that without investing in proper upbringing and strong values, the nation risks losing its direction.

However, she added that if women unite and support the youth, Tanzania will remain a model of peace across the continent.

Another participant, Sifa Swai, highlighted that threats to peace have increasingly shifted to social media, where misinformation spreads rapidly and misleads young people.

She added that instability in women’s businesses often affects family welfare, resulting in social tensions that can escalate into wider conflicts.

Participants at the forum collectively emphasized the vital role of women’s voices in protecting peace, healing social divisions, and spearheading national reconciliation efforts.
