Mining Stakeholders and Public Laud Laboratory Services at 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair

📍Dar es Salaam, 6 July 2025

Mining stakeholders and members of the public have applauded the exemplary laboratory and consultancy services showcased by the Mining Commission during the ongoing 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF).

A key highlight for many was the demonstration of the modern X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) machine, which accurately analyses metallic minerals and delivers results within seconds.

This state-of-the-art equipment, along with expert explanations and real-time sample testing, drew widespread interest from mineral traders, buyers, and small to medium-scale miners attending the fair.

Many pledged to utilize the laboratory services in their mining operations, citing reliability, speed, and professionalism.

Speaking at the Laboratory Services Offices in Dar es Salaam, Engineer Mvunilwa Mwarabu, Manager of Minerals Audit and Laboratory Services, emphasized the critical role the facility plays in Tanzania’s mineral value chain. “The Mining Commission Laboratory, located at the TIRDO Complex in Msasani, is a modern facility designed to audit both the quality and quantity of minerals produced in the country. We also provide commercial services to explorers, miners, traders, and exporters,” she noted.

Engineer Mwarabu added that the Laboratory receives a wide variety of samples—ranging from ores and concentrates to rocks, soils, and bullion—to determine mineral content using globally validated analytical methods. “Our services are affordable, fast, and accurate. We work under ISO 17025 standards to ensure quality assurance in every result we deliver.”

The Laboratory boasts advanced equipment and a professional team capable of conducting various specialized tests, including:

• Fire assay for gold and silver

• Acid digestion and AAS for base metals

• XRF analysis for periodic table elements such as copper, zinc, nickel, tin, and iron

• Jewelry verification and gold karat analysis

• Graphite analysis and mineral identification

The Commission’s commitment to quality is further demonstrated through its robust quality assurance systems, skilled personnel, and ability to serve clients remotely via telecommunication.

The facility also offers sampling, sample preparation, drying, moisture determination, and loss on ignition tests.

“The response at the Sabasaba exhibitions has been overwhelming. We are proud to serve Tanzania’s mineral sector by offering trusted laboratory services that contribute directly to value addition and transparency in mineral trade,” Engineer Mwarabu concluded.

She further extended an open invitation to all mineral stakeholders—including miners, traders, and investors—to take full advantage of the Commission’s laboratory services. “We welcome everyone in the sector to bring their samples for testing and experience the accuracy and professionalism we provide. Our doors are always open to support sustainable mineral development and responsible trading practices in Tanzania.”
