WMTH, Nane Nane, Nzuguni – Dodoma
The Assistant Director of Research at the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), Dr. John Joseph, has emphasized the importance of educating farmers and the public on the use of the Residential Address System and online safety to improve agricultural activities and protect citizens from cyber fraud.
Dr. Joseph, accompanied by other leaders, visited the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology pavilion during the ongoing International Nane Nane Exhibition at the Dr. John Malecela Grounds in Nzuguni, Dodoma.
The visit aimed to learn more about the digital services coordinated by the Ministry and their contribution to strengthening agriculture and the digital economy.
Receiving the delegation, ICT Officer from the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology, Mr. Stanley Maliwa, explained that the Residential Address System makes it easier for farmers to locate areas where agricultural inputs are available, access crop storage warehouses and reach markets through the NaPA Direction Service.
He said the system contributes to improving efficiency and productivity in agricultural and business activities.
Mr. Maliwa added that the Ministry also coordinates and oversees digital payment systems, including Jamii Malipo, which enable farmers to receive payments for their products safely and conveniently.
“The use of these systems contributes to the growth of the digital economy, in line with the implementation of the National Development Vision 2050,” he said.
Meanwhile, ICT Officer Mr. Charles Liwongwe said the Ministry continues to provide online safety education to citizens, particularly farmers, to equip them with knowledge and skills to protect themselves against online fraudsters.
He explained that citizens can report telephone numbers used for fraudulent activities through 15040, a measure aimed at reducing cybercrime incidents.
Following the presentations, Dr. Joseph stressed the need to strengthen public education on the Residential Address System and online safety.
He noted that many citizens still do not fully understand the benefits of the system and how it can improve their day-to-day activities.
“This education will enable farmers to report crop diseases to agricultural experts using the Residential Address System, allowing experts to quickly reach the affected areas and address the challenges in a timely manner. This is an important step toward increasing agricultural productivity and improving services to citizens,” he said.
Dr. Joseph further noted that increased awareness of online safety would help reduce cases of financial fraud targeting farmers and the general public, while encouraging the safe use of digital technologies to promote economic growth and national development.
