CYBERSECURITY EDUCATION EMPOWERS STUDENTS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AGAINST ONLINE CRIME

WMTH, Nzuguni, Dodoma.

Students from Ursula and Lukundo Secondary Schools in Dodoma today visited the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology pavilion at the International Nane Nane Exhibition currently underway at the Dr. John Malecela Grounds in Nzuguni, where they received education on various ICT services, particularly the safe use of technology and ways to protect themselves against cybercrime.

Speaking at the exhibition, an ICT Officer from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Mr. Charles Liwongwe, urged students to prioritize cybersecurity when using smartphones, computers and other electronic devices for learning. He advised them not to open suspicious links, share personal information with strangers, or disclose passwords for their devices or online accounts.

The students also received an explanation from ICT Officer Mr. Stanley Maliwa about the Residential Addressing System and its importance in facilitating access to digital services, including applications for letters of identification that students may need when joining higher learning institutions.

Mr. Liwongwe added that reaching out to students through the Nane Nane Exhibition is part of the Ministry's efforts to build a society with greater awareness of safe technology use while enhancing young people's ability to benefit from opportunities in the digital economy safely and productively.

Meanwhile, the students expressed their appreciation for the knowledge they gained, saying it would help them use technology more safely in their studies and other daily activities. They also pledged to share the knowledge with their fellow students when they return to school.

The International Nane Nane Exhibition continues to serve as an important platform for the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to educate the public about various ICT services and systems while promoting greater awareness of safe technology use for social and economic development.
