LONDO COMMENDS TASAC, URGES VALUE ADDITION TO BOOST INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT

By Carlos Claudio, Dodoma.

Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Dennis Lazaro Londo (MP), has commended the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) for continuing to bring its services and public education closer to citizens and stakeholders.

Hon. Londo made the remarks when he visited the TASAC pavilion at the 33rd Nanenane International Agricultural Exhibition, taking place at the Dkt. John Samuel Malecela Exhibition Grounds in Nzuguni, Dodoma.

During his visit, the Deputy Minister was briefed on TASAC’s efforts to engage with citizens and stakeholders by providing education on its responsibilities, including promoting safety, security and environmental protection in Tanzania’s maritime and lake transport sectors, as well as providing services related to shipping business.

Speaking to journalists, Hon. Londo said the Government’s strategy to add value to agricultural, livestock and fisheries products through industrial processing remains a key pillar in building a competitive economy, increasing producers’ incomes and creating more employment opportunities for Tanzanians.

He said the Government, through institutions under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, is continuing to ensure that locally produced goods are processed and value-added before reaching the market, enabling them to meet quality standards and compete effectively in both domestic and international markets.

According to Hon. Londo, institutions under the Ministry, including BRELA, the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), the Fair Competition Commission (FCC), the Warehouse Receipts Regulatory Board (WRRB), SIDO and the College of Business Education (CBE), are continuing to bring services closer to citizens.

These institutions provide education, business registration, quality standards and other services aimed at empowering producers and traders to participate effectively in the industrial economy.

He further said that the Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has continued improving the business environment through investments in roads, bridges, ferries, rural electrification through REA and communication infrastructure.

Hon. Londo noted that such investments are intended to reduce production and transportation costs, facilitate the movement of goods and enable citizens to access accurate market information, thereby increasing productivity.

The Deputy Minister urged citizens attending the Nanenane exhibition to visit the Ministry of Industry and Trade pavilion and those of its institutions to access various services and obtain information on available opportunities.

He emphasized that adding value to locally produced goods is essential for strengthening domestic industries, increasing citizens’ incomes, creating employment opportunities and positioning Tanzania as a hub for trade and the production of competitive goods.
