WATERAID COMPLETES TZS 465 MILLION WATER SUPPLY PROJECT IN HANDENI

A clean water supply project worth TZS 465.2 million has been successfully completed in Kwamaizi, Handeni District, bringing reliable access to safe drinking water to more than 6,000 residents.

Receiving the project on behalf of the Government, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water, Eng. Mwajuma Waziri, reaffirmed the Government's commitment to working closely with development partners to expand access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene services as part of efforts to improve public health and community well-being.

She urged the Handeni Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (HTM), Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), local government leaders and community members to safeguard and properly maintain the water infrastructure to ensure the long-term sustainability of the services.

Meanwhile, WaterAid Tanzania Country Director Anna Mzinga called on the responsible institutions to develop sustainable strategies for maintaining and expanding the project so that more communities can benefit from improved water services.

The Kwamaizi Water Supply Project was implemented by WaterAid Tanzania, with funding from OKF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and the Handeni Town Council.

The project included the construction of a 100,000-litre water treatment unit, a 100,000-litre storage tank, installation of 1,485 metres of primary transmission pipeline, 2,358 metres of water distribution pipelines, and the construction of three prepaid public water kiosks.

The project is expected to improve access to safe and reliable water services for residents of Kideleko, Kampene, Muungano, Ndekai and Bangu, contributing significantly to better health, sanitation and socio-economic development in the area.
