TEA PROMOTES VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP AT SABASABA

By Carlos Claudio, Dar es Salaam.

The Tanzania Education Authority (TEA) has said it is continuing to mobilise and manage financial resources through the National Education Fund to support the Government’s efforts to improve teaching and learning environments, particularly following the introduction of the revised curriculum.

The remarks were made by TEA Public Relations and Communications Officer, Eliafile Solla, while speaking to journalists on July 8, 2026, at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, popularly known as Sabasaba, taking place at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Trade Fair Grounds in Dar es Salaam.

Solla said TEA is a Government institution operating under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, with the responsibility of managing the National Education Fund and mobilising resources to support the development of the education sector in the country.

She said that since the implementation of the revised curriculum began, the authority has focused on securing financial and other resources to support teaching and learning, including the provision of equipment for vocational and practical skills training.

“Through our participation in the 50th International Trade Fair, TEA aims to bring services closer to the public, educate citizens about our responsibilities and demonstrate how we contribute to the implementation of the revised curriculum, entrepreneurship and skills development,” Solla said.

She said TEA’s pavilion has brought together beneficiaries of various programmes coordinated by the authority, including students and teachers from a Dar es Salaam secondary school who have benefited from equipment for tailoring and sewing practical training.

According to Solla, the students are using the TEA pavilion to demonstrate how they apply the sewing skills they have acquired at school after receiving modern training equipment.

The pavilion also features beneficiaries of the Skills Development Fund (SDF), which is managed and coordinated by TEA. The beneficiaries are sharing testimonies on how skills development training has enabled them to become self-employed, expand production and make progress towards achieving their goals.

One of the beneficiaries, entrepreneur Easther Shebe, said the training she received through the Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO) transformed her life and expanded her mushroom production business.

She said that before receiving the training, she was not well known and had limited products. However, she now produces several varieties of mushrooms, including red mushrooms, white oyster mushrooms, yellow oyster mushrooms and pink oyster mushrooms.

She thanked TEA for managing the fund and enabling citizens to access skills development training, while also commending President Samia Suluhu Hassan for supporting education and skills development initiatives in Tanzania.

Students from the tailoring vocational stream at a Dar es Salaam secondary school also said the programme has given them an opportunity to gain employable and self-employment skills alongside their classroom studies.

Student Emiliano Shauri said the tailoring lessons have enabled him to learn how to make school uniforms, shirts, trousers, dresses and skirts. He added that the modern sewing machines provided have reduced costs and made practical training easier.

Another student, Maria Richard, said the vocational stream enables students to create their own employment opportunities after completing school, helping to address youth unemployment.

She said the electronic sewing equipment supplied by TEA has made training more accessible, unlike in the past when students had to travel to VETA centres for practical lessons.

Tailoring teacher Rosana Magubika thanked TEA for providing sewing machines and training equipment, while appealing to the authority to extend the support to more schools and provide knitting machines for making sweaters.

TEA has invited members of the public to visit its pavilion at the Sabasaba Trade Fair to learn more about the National Education Fund, the Skills Development Fund and opportunities for collaboration in strengthening education, skills development and entrepreneurship in Tanzania.
