MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CONTINUES TO EMPOWER ICT PROFESSIONALS THROUGH DIGITAL TANZANIA

By Carlos Claudio, Dodoma.

The Government of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, continues to strengthen the country's digital transformation agenda by investing in the professional development of ICT experts through the Digital Tanzania Project.

This was highlighted by Brian Kaduma, a Senior Communications Engineer at the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF), who said the knowledge and skills he acquired through a Master's degree in Robotics Engineering will help accelerate industrial productivity, improve public service delivery, and inspire more young people, particularly girls, to pursue careers in technology.

Speaking in Dodoma, Kaduma said he plans to use his expertise in various UCSAF initiatives, including the Girls in ICTprogramme, to introduce Form Three girls to Robotics through practical learning opportunities and innovation programmes.

"Through UCSAF programmes such as Girls in ICT, I hope to expose young girls to Robotics at an early stage so they can develop an interest in technology and prepare themselves for careers in ICT, particularly in Robotics," he said.

Kaduma explained that his Master's degree in Robotics Engineering, obtained through the Digital Tanzania Project, focuses on applying advanced technologies to improve industrial productivity and enhance value addition for Tanzanian products, making them more competitive in international markets.

He noted that the Government's vision of preparing public servants for emerging technologies has enabled professionals like him to acquire the expertise needed to respond to the rapidly changing digital landscape.

"The education I received in Robotics has equipped me with the knowledge to adapt to emerging technologies and perform my responsibilities more effectively than before," he said.

He added that the programme has also strengthened his ability to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies to improve efficiency and accelerate the delivery of public services.

Kaduma further said that studying in the United Kingdom broadened both his academic and professional perspectives by exposing him to advanced technologies, different educational systems, and diverse cultural experiences that are yet to be fully available in Tanzania.

Looking ahead, he expressed his ambition to pursue a PhD in Robotics to become a leading expert in the field. In the meantime, he intends to share the knowledge and experience he gained abroad with his colleagues and young Tanzanians interested in digital technologies.

He emphasised that UCSAF has a statutory responsibility to ensure Tanzanians improve their digital literacy and make greater use of ICT, adding that well-trained professionals are essential in achieving the country's digital transformation goals.

Kaduma concluded by thanking the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, for providing public servants with opportunities to advance their education.

He also called upon development partners and other stakeholders to support similar capacity-building initiatives, not only for government employees but also for ordinary citizens, saying that expanding access to digital skills will contribute to improved livelihoods and accelerate Tanzania's socio-economic development.
