TADB CAPITAL SURPASSES TZS 1.04 TRILLION AS 73.6 PERCENT OF LOANS WERE DISBURSED UNDER PRESIDENT SAMIA'S ADMINISTRATION

By Carlos Claudio, Dodoma.

The Managing Director of the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB), Frank Nyabundege, has announced that the bank's capital and development funds have surpassed TZS 1.04 trillion, with 73.6 percent of all loans issued by the bank having been disbursed during the Sixth Phase Government under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Nyabundege made the remarks on July 30, 2026, in Dodoma while briefing journalists at the Ministry of Information (MAELEZO) on TADB's achievements during the 2025/2026 financial year and its strategic priorities for 2026/2027.

He said TADB was established as a government-owned development bank with the mission of providing financial services to farmers, livestock keepers, and fishers, while transforming agriculture from subsistence farming into a modern, productive, and competitive commercial sector.

Nyabundege noted that the Sixth Phase Government has significantly strengthened the bank through increased capital investment. Before 2021, TADB's capital stood at only TZS 60 billion.

He explained that in 2021, the Government injected TZS 208 billion, raising the bank's capital to TZS 268 billion. In 2024, an additional TZS 174.16 billion, financed through the African Development Bank (AfDB), increased the capital to TZS 442.16 billion. A further TZS 10 billion was added in 2025, bringing the bank's total capital to TZS 452.16 billion.

In addition to its capital base, Nyabundege said TADB has successfully mobilized TZS 445.6 billion in development financing from international partners, secured TZS 108.4 billion through the Smallholder Credit Guarantee Scheme (SCGS), and manages TZS 36.54 billion on behalf of the Government.

He said these investments have enabled the bank to accelerate agricultural financing, with 73.6 percent of all loansissued between 2022 and 2025, during President Samia Suluhu Hassan's administration.

According to Nyabundege, TADB has played a vital role in strengthening Tanzania's food security by financing agricultural production, farm machinery, and agricultural inputs, contributing to the country's 130 percent food self-sufficiency level achieved in 2025.

He added that the bank has financed the construction of warehouses, grain storage facilities, cold storage infrastructure, and transport systems to reduce post-harvest losses. It has also invested in strengthening agricultural value chains to improve market access, stabilize prices, and increase farmers' incomes.

Looking ahead to the 2026/2027 financial year in line with the Tanzania Development Vision 2050, Nyabundege said TADB will continue expanding access to finance for the agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors. The bank also plans to promote technology adoption, empower youth and women, strengthen climate-resilient agriculture, and support value addition for both domestic and international markets.
