COOPERATIVES SET TO SHINE AT NANENANE 2026 AS 90 SOCIETIES SHOWCASE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

By Carlos Claudio, Dodoma.

The Government, through the Office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, has urged Tanzanians to visit the Cooperative Village at the 2026 National Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition in Nzuguni, Dodoma, to learn about the opportunities offered by the cooperative sector in driving economic growth and improving livelihoods.

The call was made by Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Consolata Kiluma, while speaking to journalists ahead of the official opening of the exhibition.

Kiluma said the Cooperative Village will officially open on August 1 and will feature about 90 exhibitors representing different types of cooperative societies from across the country, including agricultural cooperatives, Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOS), and other cooperative organizations.

She noted that the exhibition will also bring together key stakeholders such as the Cooperative Bank, the Moshi Cooperative University (MoCU), the Cooperative Audit and Supervision Corporation (COASCO), insurance institutions, and development partners.

"Visitors will have the opportunity to explore products and services offered by cooperative societies while gaining valuable knowledge about the role of cooperatives in improving livelihoods and contributing to national economic development," Kiluma said.

She further revealed that August 3 has been designated as Cooperatives Day, with the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania expected to officiate the event. The occasion will provide an opportunity for cooperative members to engage with the Vice President and showcase their achievements.

During the event, several partnership agreements between cooperative institutions and development partners will be signed, while important reports and initiatives that have been under preparation for an extended period will also be officially launched.

Kiluma added that on August 6, a special Women's Cooperatives Conference will be held, bringing together women involved in cooperatives to exchange experiences, celebrate their achievements, and discuss opportunities for expanding women's participation in the cooperative movement.

She emphasized that the cooperative sector continues to play a significant role in Tanzania's economy by facilitating the marketing of strategic agricultural crops through cooperative societies, enabling farmers to receive competitive prices and timely payments while ensuring the Government efficiently collects its revenues.

According to Kiluma, cooperative societies have also become instrumental in ensuring farmers receive agricultural inputs on time, providing affordable financial services through SACCOS, creating employment opportunities, and supporting community development initiatives in sectors such as health and education.

She concluded by encouraging Tanzanians to visit the Cooperative Village during the Nanenane exhibition to witness firsthand the contribution of cooperatives to economic transformation and sustainable national development.
