AYA SOPHIA HOTELS PREPARES TO BENEFIT FROM AFCON 2027 TOURISM BOOM

By Carlos Claudio, Dar es Salaam.

Luxury hotel operator Aya Sophia Hotels is positioning itself to benefit from an anticipated rise in tourist arrivals ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Tanzania will co-host with Kenya and Uganda.

The company showcased its tourism services and attractions during the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, popularly known as Sabasaba, in collaboration with the Tanzania Tourist Board and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.

Aya Sophia Villas Dar es Salaam and Aya Sophia Wildlife Arusha Marketing Officer, Susan Kanje, said the company is continuing preparations to serve football fans and international visitors expected to enter the country during the tournament.

“We are here to promote Aya Sophia as part of the preparations for AFCON 2027 and to showcase the tourism experience Tanzania can offer international visitors,” Kanje said.

She said Aya Sophia Villas Dar es Salaam, located at Mbutu Beach in Kigamboni, has 29 accommodation units serving individual travellers, families and groups.

In addition to accommodation, the hotel offers conference facilities and outdoor spaces for corporate events, staff team-building activities and other social functions.

Another attraction at the property is a private wildlife area featuring giraffes, zebras, antelopes and ostriches, as well as rare animals including Bengal tigers and white lions.

In Arusha, Aya Sophia Wildlife Arusha, located in the Maji ya Chai area within Dolly Estate, combines luxury accommodation with an opportunity for guests to view wildlife roaming freely near the guest areas.

Kanje said visitors can see some animals directly from their rooms, adding to the uniqueness of the hotel’s services.

She added that the hotel’s location between Arusha and Mount Kilimanjaro offers views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro, which is expected to further attract international tourists.

Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda will co-host AFCON 2027, marking the first time the continent’s major football tournament will be held in East Africa.

The tournament is expected to attract thousands of visitors from within and outside Africa, while stimulating investment in sports infrastructure, transport and tourism services across the three host countries.
