DR LEKASHINGO URGES MADINI SACCOS TO EXPAND MEMBERSHIP AND INVESTMENT

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT - DODOMA

Mining Commission Chairperson Dr Janet R. Lekashingo has urged Madini SACCOS to expand its membership, strengthen investment and uphold financial transparency and accountability to attain Grade B status.

Speaking at a members’ meeting held at the Mining Commission headquarters in Dodoma, Dr Lekashingo emphasised the need to recruit more employees, particularly those based in Resident Mines Offices, increase share contributions and improve financial management.

The SACCOS patron, Mining Commission Executive Secretary Eng Ramadhani Lwamo, called on the leadership to promote unity among members, manage funds effectively and ensure members benefit from the organisation’s financial services and investments.

Madini SACCOS Chairperson Endrewcus Masero reported that membership had grown from 375 in 2023 to 631 by September 2026, representing an increase of more than 67 per cent. The organisation had disbursed approximately TSh2.55 billion in loans to 439 members, while savings exceeded TSh1.15 billion.

He added that the SACCOS had received unqualified audit opinions for three consecutive years. Its 2027/28 strategic plan aims to increase active membership to at least 1,050, raise its capital to TSh200 million and expand digital financial services.

Dr Lekashingo urged the Board, management and members to strengthen accountability, increase savings and share contributions, and ensure timely loan repayments to support sustainable growth and achieve Grade B status.
