The Executive Director of Foundation for Disabilities Hope (FDH), Maiko Salali, has called on Tanzanians to continue protecting and promoting peace, stressing that peace is a fundamental pillar for national development, security and the well-being of all members of society, including people with disabilities.
Salali made the call in Dodoma during a seminar organised to equip leaders of Tanzania Peace Family with knowledge on peace and patriotism, enabling them to serve as peace ambassadors and promote peaceful coexistence in communities.
He said FDH, an organisation committed to advocating for and supporting people with disabilities, was pleased to work with Tanzania Peace Family in strengthening efforts to safeguard peace in the country.
“FDH is ready to work with Tanzania Peace Family and contribute resources, knowledge and strength to ensure that we work together to protect our peace,” Salali said.
He noted that when peace is threatened, people with disabilities can be among the groups most affected, making initiatives aimed at promoting peace particularly important.
Salali urged leaders of Tanzania Peace Family not to become tired of promoting peace, emphasising that the country needs peace for citizens to safely engage in economic and social development activities.
He also encouraged young people to learn from experienced leaders and use the guidance they receive to promote peace and patriotism, saying such efforts would help ensure that future generations continue to live in a safe and peaceful Tanzania.
For her part, Tanzania Peace Family National Coordinator, Matrona Remigeus Severine, said the organisation focuses on contributing to the resolution of religious, political and social conflicts.
She said leaders must first be equipped with knowledge of patriotism before going into communities to promote peace, as patriotism provides an important foundation for effectively carrying out peace-building responsibilities.
Severine said the seminar was therefore aimed at preparing Tanzania Peace Family leaders to become effective ambassadors of peace and patriotism in their respective communities.
She further stressed the importance of cooperation among different organisations and stakeholders in protecting Tanzania's peace and demonstrating to the international community that Tanzanians themselves are committed to safeguarding the peace that has long characterised the country.
