FDH, STAMICO AND ZANZIBAR TRAINING COLLEGE TO SIGN HISTORIC ALTERNATIVE CHARCOAL DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT

By Carlos Claudio, Dodoma.

The Foundation for Disabilities Hope (FDH), in collaboration with the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) and Zanzibar Training College, is set to sign a cooperation agreement tomorrow, August 11, 2026, aimed at facilitating the large-scale distribution of Rafiki Briquette alternative charcoal.

The initiative seeks to promote the use of clean energy while reducing the environmental impact associated with the use of polluting energy sources.

Speaking to journalists in Dodoma today, FDH Director Maiko Salali described the event as historic, saying it would open a new chapter of cooperation in promoting the use of clean energy in Tanzania.

Salali said FDH had been appointed as a major distributor of the alternative charcoal and had been engaging with various institutions to ensure the product reaches more Tanzanians.

“Tomorrow, we will witness a major historic event involving the signing of a cooperation agreement between Zanzibar Training College and STAMICO, in collaboration with FDH, for the large-scale distribution of Rafiki Briquette alternative charcoal,” he said.

He said the initiative supports the Government’s efforts to promote clean energy and protect the environment, adding that Rafiki Briquette is intended to help Tanzanians reduce their dependence on energy sources that contribute to environmental degradation.

According to Salali, FDH earned the opportunity to become one of the distributors of the alternative charcoal after being awarded an agency certificate, a development he said had strengthened the organisation’s commitment to advancing the clean energy agenda.

He added that the cooperation between Zanzibar Training College, STAMICO and FDH would increase the availability of alternative charcoal and enable citizens to access environmentally friendly energy.

“We are very proud to support the implementation of the clean energy agenda, and we commend STAMICO for introducing alternative charcoal that will contribute to environmental conservation and reduce the negative effects associated with the use of polluting energy sources,” Salali said.

Salali also urged Tanzanians to support the Government’s efforts to promote the use of clean energy, saying the move is essential for protecting the environment and creating a better environment for both current and future generations.

He said the signing of the agreement tomorrow would mark the beginning of a new era of cooperation in the distribution and use of clean energy, stressing that FDH is ready to work with various institutions to ensure that Rafiki Briquette alternative charcoal is easily accessible to citizens.

The signing ceremony is expected to create new opportunities for wider distribution of alternative charcoal while supporting national efforts to protect the environment and promote the adoption of clean energy.
