The Tanzania Film Board has commended Chamwino Arts Centre (CAC) for its continued efforts in organising the Cigogo Music Festival, describing the event as an important platform that brings together artists from different creative sectors while creating opportunities for talent development across the country.
Speaking to journalists at Chamwino Arts Centre ahead of the official opening of the 17th Cigogo Music Festival scheduled for July 25, 2026, the Tanzania Film Board's Development Officer, Ally Makata, said the Board's participation in the festival reflects the strong connection between music and the film industry.
Makata noted that many people wonder why the Tanzania Film Board takes part in a music festival, explaining that music is an essential element of filmmaking because it enhances storytelling, creates emotion and keeps audiences engaged through background music.
"That is why we decided to come to Chamwino and participate in the Cigogo Music Festival. It is a unique opportunity for us to engage directly with stakeholders in the creative industry," he said.
He explained that the festival provides an ideal platform to meet actors, camera operators, directors, producers and musicians, adding that many artists possess multiple talents that deserve recognition and professional development.
According to Makata, the Tanzania Film Board is using the festival to educate stakeholders about the opportunities available through the government while also registering film practitioners so they can be officially recognised and benefit from services offered by the Board.
"We are here to inform stakeholders about the opportunities available through the Tanzania Film Board and to register creative professionals so they can be officially recognised and advance their careers," he said.
He further praised Chamwino Arts Centre for creating an event that attracts Tanzanians from different parts of the country and strengthens the creative arts sector.
"No form of art can exist without music. We congratulate Chamwino Arts Centre for bringing Tanzanians together through the arts. This is a remarkable initiative that deserves to be emulated by others," Makata added.
The 17th Cigogo Music Festival will officially open on July 25, 2026, with the Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Rosemary Senyamule, expected to officiate as the guest of honour.
