The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) in Dodoma Region has called on the public to embrace clean electric cooking energy as a way of protecting their health, conserving the environment and reducing household cooking costs.

The remarks were made by TANESCO Dodoma Regional Senior Marketing Officer Doris Mfinanga while speaking to journalists at Chamwino Arts Centre (CAC) ahead of the official opening of the 17th Cigogo Music Festival, scheduled for July 25, 2026. The event is expected to be officiated by the Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Rosemary Senyamule.

Mfinanga said TANESCO will participate throughout the festival, using the event as a platform to educate the public on the benefits of clean electric cooking through practical demonstrations at its exhibition booth.

She explained that visitors will have the opportunity to witness how modern electric cooking appliances operate efficiently while consuming very little electricity, producing no smoke and helping to improve the health of users as well as protect the environment.

"Our electric cookers can prepare all types of Tanzanian dishes, including beans, rice and mixed maize and beans (makande), using less than one electricity unit. One unit costs only TSh 360, meaning even foods that normally take a long time to cook, such as beans, can be prepared at a very low cost," she said.

Mfinanga noted that TANESCO chose to participate in the festival because it attracts thousands of visitors, providing an excellent opportunity to raise public awareness about clean cooking energy.

"We expect to reach more than 10,000 people during the festival and educate them on the benefits of electric cooking while supporting President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan's national campaign to promote clean cooking energy across Tanzania," she added.

She also encouraged festival-goers to visit the TANESCO booth to receive information and access the various services offered by the utility.

Meanwhile, TANESCO Dodoma Regional Assistant Customer Service Officer Regina Mkalawa said the company's participation aims to increase public awareness of modern electric cooking technologies.

She said TANESCO has thoroughly assessed and approved modern Electric Pressure Cookers and Induction Cookers, confirming that they consume minimal electricity while cooking food quickly and efficiently.

According to Mkalawa, even customers who consume less than 75 electricity units per month under Tariff Zero can comfortably afford to use the appliances.

She added that clean electric cooking significantly reduces cooking time, eliminates the need for charcoal and firewood preparation, improves household health by eliminating smoke exposure, and contributes to environmental conservation by reducing deforestation.

Mkalawa emphasised that the 17th Cigogo Music Festival provides TANESCO with an important opportunity to educate thousands of Tanzanians about the advantages of clean cooking energy and support the country's transition to sustainable energy solutions.
