Minister for Finance, Hon. Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), has urged members of the public and businesspeople to visit the Tax Ombudsman Service and Tax Information Office (TOST) pavilion at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, popularly known as Sabasaba, to learn about the services offered by the office.
The call was made on July 2, 2026, when Ambassador Omar visited the TOST pavilion located inside the Ministry of Finance building at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Trade Fair Grounds in Dar es Salaam.
He said citizens and business operators should use the opportunity provided by the trade fair to gain a better understanding of TOST’s responsibilities, including how the office receives, mediates and follows up on tax-related complaints and information.
Ambassador Omar said the services provided by TOST play an important role in improving revenue collection efficiency, enhancing the business environment and supporting the implementation of Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050.
“The services offered by TOST are crucial in strengthening tax administration, promoting voluntary tax compliance and creating a more favourable environment for businesses,” he said.
Speaking separately, the Tax Ombudsman and Tax Information Officer, Erastus Mtui, said TOST has set up a camp at the trade fair to provide tax education to citizens and businesspeople, while also receiving tax-related complaints and information from the public.
Mr Mtui said the office is committed to handling complaints and information promptly in accordance with the law, as part of efforts to broaden the tax base and encourage voluntary tax compliance.
He added that the public education programme is intended to strengthen cooperation between taxpayers and relevant authorities, while improving awareness of taxpayers’ rights and obligations.
