DODOMA STRENGTHENS PRIVATE SECTOR TO ACHIEVE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT VISION 2050

By Carlos Claudio, Dar es Salaam.

The Dodoma City Council has been commended for continuing to develop and nurture the private sector, a move seen as crucial in stimulating economic growth, creating employment opportunities and accelerating development for citizens.

The commendation was made by Dodoma District Business Council Chairperson, Alhaj Jabir Shekimweri, during his visit to the Dodoma City Council exhibition pavilion at the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, popularly known as Sabasaba, taking place at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Trade Fair Grounds in Dar es Salaam.

Shekimweri said the city’s participation in the trade fair, alongside private-sector entrepreneurs showcasing their products, demonstrates the implementation of guidance previously issued by the Dodoma District Business Council.

He described the private sector as a key engine of economic growth for Dodoma and the country, stressing that its involvement is essential for achieving the goals of Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050.

“I am pleased to see that it is not only city officials who have come, but you have also brought private-sector entrepreneurs. This shows that you understand our district and regional vision of building the capacity of entrepreneurs to participate in international trade,” he said.

He explained that in April this year, the Dodoma District Business Council conducted a learning visit to Dar es Salaam, where members toured the Port of Dar es Salaam and the Kwala Inland Container Depot to gain knowledge on preparing Dodoma traders for international business.

According to Shekimweri, an assessment of the National Development Vision 2050 has shown that about 70 percent of its implementation will depend on the contribution of the private sector.

“We cannot achieve the National Development Vision 2050 without involving the private sector. Therefore, Dodoma City Council’s decision to bring entrepreneurs to this trade fair is commendable and should be emulated,” he said.

During his visit, Shekimweri was impressed by a range of products produced by local entrepreneurs, particularly spices made by Furahia Food Spices, including tea masala, pilau masala and meat masala.

He said the products demonstrate the knowledge, innovation and capacity of Dodoma entrepreneurs to produce competitive goods for the market.

“I have seen different types of spices and great innovation being brought to the market. I congratulate Dodoma City Council for your participation; I am truly pleased to see you here,” he said.
