CAC COMMENDED FOR PRESERVING CULTURAL HERITAGE AS GOVERNMENT PLEDGES CONTINUED SUPPORT

By Carlos Claudio, Chamwino, Dodoma.

The Government has commended Chamwino Arts Centre (CAC) for its outstanding efforts in preserving and passing on Tanzania's cultural heritage to younger generations, while pledging continued support to help the institution achieve its mission of promoting arts, culture and community development.

The remarks were made by Chamwino District Commissioner Janeth Mayanja, who represented Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule during the opening ceremony of the 17th Chamwino Music Festival held at the Chamwino Arts Centre grounds.

Speaking to journalists, Mayanja said the Government was impressed by the festival's ability to bring together people of all ages—from children to adults—to participate in and celebrate traditional dances, demonstrating that the region's cultural traditions are being successfully passed down from one generation to another.

"At this exhibition, we have seen traditional dances performed by adults, young people and even children. This clearly shows the commitment to preserving our culture for future generations. We sincerely congratulate Chamwino Arts Centre for this remarkable vision," she said.

She noted that the Government has worked closely with Chamwino Arts Centre for many years in organising the annual festival, which is held every July, adding that the institution has played a significant role in safeguarding the customs and traditions of the people of Dodoma through cultural performances.

According to the District Commissioner, the people of Dodoma have remained committed to preserving their cultural identity through traditional dance and other artistic expressions, with CAC serving as a key platform for promoting and protecting that heritage.

Mayanja also thanked all stakeholders and partners who have continued to support the festival, noting that this year's theme, "Our Art, Our Energy," has expanded the festival's impact by combining cultural celebrations with public education on the use of clean cooking energy.

She said the large turnout at the festival provides an ideal opportunity to educate communities—especially those from rural areas—about the importance of adopting clean cooking energy, expressing confidence that the campaign will spread beyond Chamwino town to villages across the district.

"We congratulate Chamwino Arts Centre for its forward-thinking vision of using arts as a platform to educate the public. The Government will continue working with the institution to ensure these goals are achieved for the benefit of the people and the nation as a whole," she said.
