MINISTRY CALLS FOR STRONGER PARTNERSHIPS TO BOOST SCHOOL MEALS PROGRAMME

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has called on international organizations and development partners to strengthen collaboration in improving school food and nutrition programmes, to ensure that children across Tanzania enjoy better health and a conducive learning environment.

Speaking on December 1, 2025, in Dar es Salaam during a stakeholders’ meeting on the school feeding programme, Victor Bwindiki, Assistant Director for Primary Education Policy Development, said the gathering aimed at sharing experiences, reviewing achievements and challenges, and formulating joint strategies to enhance the provision of meals in schools.

“Each participant will have the opportunity to present best practices, lessons learned, and the challenges faced. We will jointly discuss ways to address these challenges to further improve the national school feeding programme,” Bwindiki said.

On her part, Vera Kwara, Head of Nutrition, HIV and School Programmes at the WFP, thanked stakeholders for their continued efforts in strengthening the vital programme that supports the future of education in the country.

“For some children, the school meal is the only complete and nutritious meal they receive in a day. Therefore, improving dietary diversity, particularly the inclusion of protein-rich foods and essential nutrients, is a crucial step,” she said.
