Man, 35, Found Dead in Apparent Suicide Following Family Dispute in Arusha

Arusha.

A 35-year-old man, identified as Cleofasi Forentin Oiso, a resident of Olkung’ Street in Terati Ward, Arusha City, has died after allegedly taking his own life at his residence, in an incident believed to be linked to a long-standing family dispute.

According to information gathered from neighbours and close family sources, the deceased had lived with his wife for about eight years, and the couple was blessed with two children.

Reports indicate that the disagreement centred on the issue of dowry payment, with claims that the deceased’s wife had packed her belongings, allegedly signalling her intention to leave the marital home until the dowry was settled.

However, the wife strongly denied the allegations, stating that she did not intend to end the marriage. She explained that she had merely reminded her husband of his commitment to pay the dowry, a matter she said had been discussed several times within the family without reaching a final agreement.

Neighbours said that a day before the incident, they had spoken with the deceased, who appeared visibly distressed and shared the financial challenges he was facing. They added that he had expressed willingness to pay the dowry once his financial situation improved.

“He looked troubled and talked about the economic hardships he was going through. He said he had no bad intentions, but life was financially difficult,” said one neighbour, who requested anonymity.

The incident has left the family, particularly the wife and children, in deep grief, while residents of the area expressed shock, describing the deceased as a calm individual who maintained good relations with the community.

Local leaders confirmed the incident and said the matter was reported to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal procedures.

They also urged the community to seek counselling support and to resolve family disputes through dialogue and reconciliation, emphasising the importance of mental health awareness and family wellbeing, especially during times of economic hardship.
