AGRICULTURAL PROJECTS MUST TRANSFORM FARMERS’ LIVELIVES — CHONGOLO

The Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Daniel Chongolo (MP), has emphasized that agricultural projects, including irrigation initiatives, must significantly boost productivity and crop yields to economically uplift farmers.

Minister Chongolo made the remarks during a working session with leaders from the Agricultural Transformation Office (ATO), the National Irrigation Commission (NIRC), the Agricultural Development Fund (ADF), and the Agricultural Inputs Trust Fund (AGITF) held on December 10, 2025, in Dodoma.

He directed the National Irrigation Commission to ensure that all ongoing irrigation projects are completed on time and to the required standards so that they deliver tangible benefits to farmers and the nation at large. He further underscored the importance of close monitoring of all irrigation projects to accurately measure the impact of Government investment.

The Minister also instructed NIRC to begin identifying all rivers across the country with potential for supporting irrigation-based crop production—an initiative expected to stimulate further growth in the agricultural sector.

Regarding the Agricultural Inputs Trust Fund (AGITF), Minister Chongolo called on the Fund to continue providing impactful loans to farmers while strengthening loan follow-up mechanisms to ensure timely repayment. He noted that strong repayment performance will enable the Government to increase the Fund’s capital, thereby reaching more farmers.

Minister Chongolo commended the Agricultural Transformation Office (ATO) for developing the Agriculture Master Plan 2050 and urged the Office to accelerate efforts in driving agricultural transformation and offering professional guidance to advance the sector.

At the same time, he applauded the Agricultural Development Fund (ADF) for mobilizing financial resources aimed at spurring national development. He assured that the Government will continue to strengthen coordination and oversight of all agricultural institutions to ensure that the sector achieves its target of 10 percent growth by 2030.
