KADOGOSA: MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS SYMBOLISE STRONG LEADERSHIP

Tanzania’s Minister for Works, Hon. Masanja Kadogosa, has said the implementation of major strategic infrastructure projects is a hallmark of strong leadership focused on delivering tangible results and stimulating national economic growth.

Kadogosa made the remarks during an inspection tour of the ongoing construction of Jangwani Bridge in Dar es Salaam, where he commended the progress made on the project.

He said Jangwani Bridge was among the development commitments made by President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, during her election campaign, noting that the pledge received strong public support because of the project’s importance to Dar es Salaam residents.

“During the launch of her campaign in Kawe, one of the issues the President spoke about that drew loud applause was the construction of this Jangwani Bridge, which we are now witnessing,” he said.

Kadogosa commended the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) and the contractor for the progress achieved, stressing the importance of completing the project on schedule and in accordance with the terms of the contract.

“The contractor has done a very good job. Keep up the hard work and ensure that this project is completed by the end of 2027,” Kadogosa said.

He also praised the practice of producing and preparing some construction materials within the project site, saying the approach helps save time and reduce transportation costs associated with sourcing materials from distant locations.

Kadogosa added that the government was continuing to implement preparedness measures to address potential challenges during the rainy season. These include installing culverts, constructing temporary bridges and providing other essential infrastructure to ensure that major roads remain accessible and are not disrupted by rainfall.

Ilala District Commissioner Edward Mpogolo said Jangwani Bridge played a significant role in facilitating national, political, religious and social activities. However, the area has repeatedly experienced flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.

He said completion of the bridge would help minimise flooding challenges, improve the surrounding environment and ease transportation for residents and other road users.

Dar es Salaam City Mayor Nurdin Bilal, popularly known as Shetta, also commended the government for investing in the area and thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for prioritising the Jangwani Bridge project.

Earlier, the project’s Construction Manager, Eng. Leonard Ngayungi, said construction had reached 43 per cent completion. The project includes the construction of the bridge and pedestrian infrastructure.

He said the completed project would improve transport efficiency, reduce the impact of flooding and enhance the overall use of the road.
