TCU OPENS SECOND PHASE OF UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS AS 117,334 APPLICANTS SECURE PLACES

By Carlos Claudio, Dodoma.

The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) has announced the completion of the First Phase of Bachelor’s Degree admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year and officially opened the Second Phase of admissions, which will run from September 8 to 21, 2026.

Speaking in Dodoma while issuing a statement on the completion of the First Phase and the opening of the Second Phase, TCU Executive Secretary Prof. Charles Kihampa urged applicants who did not secure admission in the First Phase, as well as those who could not submit applications, to use the opportunity to apply to universities of their choice.

According to TCU, a total of 149,645 applicants submitted applications for admission to 93 higher education institutions approved to offer Bachelor’s Degree programmes.

The number of academic programmes available for the 2026/2027 academic year has increased to 1,019, compared with 894 programmes in the 2025/2026 academic year, representing an increase of 125 programmes.

Similarly, the total number of available admission slots has increased to 227,555, up from 205,652 in the previous academic year. This represents an increase of 21,903 slots, equivalent to 10.7 percent.

During the First Phase, a total of 117,334 applicants, equivalent to 78.4 percent of all applicants, secured admission to the universities they applied to.

TCU said the number of applicants admitted to higher education institutions is expected to increase following the completion of the Second Phase.

Applicants who have been admitted to more than one university have been reminded to confirm their admission at one university only between September 8 and 21, 2026.

The confirmation process will be conducted using a special confirmation code sent to applicants through SMS or email addresses provided during the application process.

Applicants who do not receive the confirmation code on time have been advised to log into the admission systems of the universities where they have been admitted and request the code to enable them to complete the confirmation process.

TCU has also reminded applicants that admission confirmation must be completed through the account they used when submitting their applications.

Prof. Kihampa emphasized that all matters relating to admission or confirmation at a particular university should be addressed directly to the respective university.

Applicants who encounter difficulties during the confirmation process should report their challenges to the universities concerned, as all higher education institutions have been directed to receive such complaints and provide timely solutions in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.

TCU has also directed higher education institutions to announce Bachelor’s Degree programmes that still have available admission slots to enable applicants to make informed choices during the Second Phase.

The Commission has urged both applicants and universities to strictly follow the procedures and timelines for the Second Phase of admissions as outlined in the official admission calendar available on the TCU website, www.tcu.go.tz.
