Parents have been urged to work closely with teachers in monitoring their children’s academic progress while at home in order to enhance their abilities and build a strong educational foundation, rather than leaving the responsibility entirely to teachers.
The call was made by the Head of Shekinah Pre & Primary School, Obadia Mwambapa, during a special school-closing event. He said close cooperation between parents and teachers is essential to ensuring that children receive quality education and proper upbringing.
He said parents should set aside time to monitor their children’s studies, understand the challenges they face and work together with teachers to find appropriate solutions.
Speaking on the occasion, the school’s Deputy Head, Juliana Sabrere, said the protection and safety of children is a shared responsibility between teachers and parents. She emphasized the importance of working together to safeguard children’s good morals and ensure they grow up in a safe environment that promotes respect, responsibility and discipline.
She said raising children properly requires the participation of both parents and teachers, noting that children need supervision and guidance both at school and at home.
She further urged parents and teachers to stay close to children, listen to them and help them distinguish between right and wrong in order to build a better generation for both the present and the future.
Meanwhile, teachers and parents who attended the event supported the importance of collaborative parenting, emphasizing that a child’s success cannot depend on one side alone. They said close cooperation between parents and teachers helps monitor children’s academic, behavioural and social development.
They called on parents to continue working closely with teachers by sharing information about their children’s progress and monitoring their behaviour at home, while teachers continue providing the necessary education and guidance at school.
The initiative is part of efforts to ensure that children at Shekinah Pre & Primary School receive quality education alongside proper upbringing that instils good morals, discipline and the ability to cope with the challenges of present and future life.
