The Government of Tanzania, through the Tanzania Digital Project, funded by the World Bank, is continuing to lay a strong foundation for social, economic and technological development by enabling citizens and institutions to benefit from the rapidly growing digital environment.
The Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC) is among the institutions benefiting from the project through the provision of modern ICT equipment and the improvement of digital infrastructure aimed at enhancing the efficiency and quality of services offered to citizens.
Speaking about the implementation of the project, the Director of E-Commerce, Agency and Financial Services at Tanzania Posts Corporation, John Mwakaloge, said the Tanzania Digital Project has played a significant role in strengthening the corporation's services, particularly in e-commerce, agency and financial services.
He said that through government funding in collaboration with the World Bank, the project has enabled the implementation of several strategic initiatives, including the development of the Tanzania National E-Commerce Platform, which creates new business opportunities by connecting producers, traders and customers through digital technology.
Mwakaloge further explained that the project has financed the renovation and improvement of the Innovation Center, located on the seventh floor of the Tanzania Posts Corporation headquarters.
According to him, the center is expected to become a hub for innovation, technological development and the creation of digital solutions that will improve service efficiency, promote the digital economy and support the government's vision of building a competitive economy driven by ICT.
He said that before the implementation of the Tanzania Digital Project, the Tanzania Posts Corporation had ICT equipment that was no longer sufficient to meet current demands due to the increasing use of technology and growing operational requirements.
Some of the equipment had become outdated, affecting the speed, efficiency and quality of digital service delivery, while also limiting the corporation's ability to develop new digital systems and implement strategic projects effectively.
“Through the Tanzania Digital Project, the corporation has received modern ICT equipment, which has strengthened technical capacity, improved the working environment and enhanced the delivery of digital services to citizens more efficiently than before,” Mwakaloge said.
He added that e-commerce is among the key areas that have benefited from the project, with digital improvements helping to strengthen online business services and create greater opportunities for traders across the country.
Mwakaloge said the corporation expects to see significant growth in the use of its digital services and an increase in revenue in the coming days as a result of investments being made through the Tanzania Digital Project in collaboration with the World Bank.
Meanwhile, Tanzania Posts Corporation Officer ji Ernest Mrutu said the corporation has established Kipepeo Online Shop, an e-commerce platform designed to connect businesses with customers both within and outside Tanzania.
He explained that through the platform, traders can register, upload photos and information about their products and make them available to customers through the digital marketplace.
Mrutu said once a customer purchases a product, Tanzania Posts Corporation facilitates the delivery of the product directly to the customer's doorstep, making the entire e-commerce process easier and more convenient.
He said one of the major advantages of joining Kipepeo Online Shop is that there is currently no registration or joining fee, while traders can gain access to both domestic and international markets through the extensive network of the Tanzania Posts Corporation.
According to Mrutu, traders wishing to join Kipepeo Online Shop are required to provide personal information, including their names, telephone number, email address and a copy of their National Identification (NIDA) card.
They are also required to provide business information, including the business name, type of business, business licence and Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).
In addition, traders must provide payment details, either a bank account or mobile money account, to facilitate payment once their products are sold through the platform.
Mrutu encouraged traders to take advantage of the opportunity by joining Kipepeo Online Shop and using digital technology to expand their businesses and access wider markets.
