Students in Tanzania have been encouraged to cultivate patriotism, love their country, and fulfill their civic responsibilities as a foundation for protecting human rights and strengthening good governance.
The call was made by the Chief Investigation Officer at the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG), Ms. Florence Chaki, while addressing students from Dar es Salaam Secondary School who visited the Commission's pavilion during the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) at the Julius Nyerere Grounds on July 9, 2026.
Speaking to the students, Ms. Chaki emphasized that rights and responsibilities are inseparable.
She said it is important for children and young people to understand their obligations to their families, schools, and the nation so that they can properly understand, protect, and claim their rights through appropriate channels.
She reminded the students that patriotism, integrity, respect for the rule of law, and accountability are key pillars in safeguarding human rights and building a society founded on respect for human rights and strong principles of good governance.
"A child who understands his or her responsibilities grows into a responsible citizen who respects the law and contributes to the development of the country," Ms. Chaki said.
Speaking on behalf of the students who visited the CHRAGG pavilion, student Samira Ismail said the education they received had helped them understand that patriotism and fulfilling civic responsibilities are essential pillars in the protection of human rights.
She added that the students would serve as ambassadors of the knowledge they gained by sharing it with their fellow students and communities, helping to build a generation that upholds human rights, responsibilities, and good moral values.
