PRESIDENT SAMIA AND GATES FOUNDATION DISCUSS ADVANCING MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH ACROSS AFRICA

Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, today held talks with Ms. Caty Fall Sow, Director of Policy, Government Relations and Partnerships (Africa) at the Gates Foundation, to strengthen collaboration aimed at improving maternal, newborn and child health in Tanzania and across Africa.

The discussions focused on deepening the longstanding partnership between Tanzania and the Gates Foundation in key areas including maternal and child health, immunisation, nutrition, health systems strengthening and disease prevention.

Ms. Sow congratulated President Samia on her appointment as the African Union Champion for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and reaffirmed the Foundation's commitment to supporting African-led efforts to end preventable maternal and child deaths across the continent.

The Gates Foundation also commended Tanzania's significant progress in expanding health infrastructure, strengthening primary healthcare, improving maternal and newborn services, and increasing access to life-saving interventions.

President Samia highlighted Tanzania's continued investments in health facilities, emergency maternal care, neonatal services and vaccination programmes, noting that these reforms have contributed significantly to improved maternal and child health outcomes.

The President also briefed the delegation on preparations for a continental roadmap under her African Union Championship, which aims to mobilise political leadership, strengthen accountability, increase investment and accelerate progress toward ending preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths across Africa.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing sustainable African-led solutions through stronger partnerships, innovation and increased investment to improve the health and well-being of women and children throughout the continent.
