Mining stakeholders and members of the public have praised the Mining Commission’s laboratory and consultancy services showcased at the ongoing 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), popularly known as Sabasaba.

Visitors were particularly impressed by live demonstrations of the Commission’s modern X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyser, which accurately identifies and quantifies metallic elements in mineral samples within seconds.

The demonstrations, complemented by expert technical guidance and on-site sample analysis, attracted mineral traders, buyers, prospectors, explorers and small- and medium-scale miners. Many expressed their intention to utilise the Commission’s laboratory services, citing their speed, accuracy, affordability and professionalism.

Speaking in an exclusive interview at the Mining Commission Pavilion, Laboratory Scientist Seif Mwacheni said the Commission’s laboratory plays a vital role in supporting Tanzania’s mining industry by providing reliable analytical services to stakeholders across the mineral value chain.

“The Mining Commission Laboratory, located at the TIRDO Complex in Msasani, is a modern facility established to audit both the quality and quantity of minerals produced in the country. We also provide commercial laboratory services to mineral explorers, miners, traders, exporters and other stakeholders,” he said.

Mwacheni explained that the Laboratory analyses a wide range of samples, including mineral ores, concentrates, rocks, soils and bullion, using internationally recognised analytical methods to determine mineral composition with a high degree of accuracy.

“Our services are affordable, timely and highly accurate. The Laboratory operates in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards, ensuring internationally recognised quality assurance in every result we deliver,” he said.

He said the Laboratory is equipped with advanced analytical instruments capable of conducting fire assay for gold and silver, acid digestion and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) for base metals, XRF analysis for elements such as copper, zinc, nickel, tin and iron, jewellery verification and gold purity analysis, as well as graphite analysis and mineral identification.

Mwacheni added that the Laboratory also offers sampling and sample preparation services, moisture determination, drying, loss on ignition testing and other specialised mineral analyses required by the mining industry.

He said the Commission continues to strengthen confidence in Tanzania’s mineral sector through internationally recognised quality assurance systems, modern laboratory technology, highly qualified personnel and efficient customer support, including remote services through digital communication platforms.

According to Mwacheni, the response from visitors during the Sabasaba exhibition has been overwhelmingly positive, reflecting growing awareness of the importance of professional laboratory services in mineral exploration, mining and trade.

“We are proud to support the growth of Tanzania’s mining sector by providing trusted laboratory services that promote value addition, transparency and confidence in mineral trading,” he said.

Mwacheni called on prospectors, explorers, miners, mineral traders, processors and investors to make greater use of the Commission’s laboratory services.

“We encourage all stakeholders to bring their mineral samples for professional analysis and experience the quality, accuracy and efficiency of our services. Our Laboratory remains committed to supporting sustainable mineral development and responsible mineral trade in Tanzania,” he said.
