Minister for Works, Abdallah Ulega, has directed the contractor, Jassie and Company (JASCO), executing the construction of the Mkuyuni Bridge in Mwanza, to hand over the completed project by January 15, 2026, stressing that no further delays will be tolerated.
The Minister issued the directive on December 11, 2025, during an inspection tour of the project, which followed an order by Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba who instructed him to visit the site and establish the cause of the project’s slow progress.
“I have been sent by the Prime Minister to come here in Mkuyuni because of the delays. I want to assure you that on January 15, 2026, I will be here, and we will not extend even a single second for the contractor. Work day and night,” Ulega emphasised.
The Minister also addressed complaints from residents over excessive dust generated by ongoing construction works. He instructed TANROADS Mwanza Regional Manager, Eng. Pascal Ambrose, to ensure the contractor regularly sprinkles water on the road to control dust and safeguard the wellbeing of nearby communities.
“Manager, ensure there is no dust. All these areas must be watered at all times. Residents should not be subjected to unnecessary discomfort. This is not something to discuss — it must be implemented,” Ulega insisted.
Furthermore, Ulega urged the contractor to create employment opportunities for local youth to accelerate implementation and support community livelihoods. He also directed the contractor to work around the clock and install adequate lighting to enhance productivity and stimulate local economic activity.
On his part, TANROADS Mwanza Regional Manager, Eng. Ambrose, explained that the contractor is executing the project at a cost of TSh 5.1 billion. The bridge was originally expected to be completed by November 13, 2025, but the contractor was granted an extension of 76 days.
It should be recalled that on December 5, Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba visited Mwanza to inspect ongoing infrastructure projects and subsequently instructed Minister Ulega to follow up on the causes of the delays affecting the Mkuyuni Bridge project.
