The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) Dodoma Region has clarified that a road section circulating on social media, alleged to be of substandard quality, is a trial section constructed in accordance with professional procedures prior to the commencement of full-scale road construction.
Speaking in Dodoma City, the Head of Maintenance Department at TANROADS Dodoma Region, Engineer Elisony Edward Mweladzi, said the approximately 300-metre-long section was deliberately constructed for testing purposes before the final asphalt layer is laid, a standard practice in road construction projects.
He explained that laboratory tests conducted by TANROADS revealed that the trial section did not meet the approved standards.
Following the findings, TANROADS formally instructed the contractor undertaking the project to immediately rectify the identified defects, including removing the affected section.
“Corrective works on the trial section will commence on December 15, 2025, before proceeding with the next phases of construction,” said Eng Mweladzi.
On his part, the project contractor, Engineer Edward Njau from Kings Builders Company Limited, confirmed receipt of the directive from TANROADS and stated that preparations to implement the corrective measures are already underway.
The project is expected to cost over 7bn/- upon completion, with TANROADS reiterating its commitment to closely supervise implementation to ensure compliance with quality standards and value for public funds.
